AWNY Offers a Health Insurance Opportunity

AWNY is able to offer health insurance and other benefits to AWNY members who are currently independent workers, through its partnership with Freelancers Union, a non-profit membership organization. Freelancers Union represents the needs of independent workers through advocacy, information and service. Members who qualify have access to group-rate health, dental, life and disability insurance plans, educational seminars and networking events and participation in advocacy campaigns.

Visit www.freelancersunion.org and join for free. When you register online for insurance, make sure to indicate that you’re a member of AWNY so that your insurance application fee will be waived. (Please note you will not automatically be eligible for insurance; applications are subject to standard eligibility rules and procedures.)

Freelancers Union also offers plans under Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield, (not HIP plans).

Each year at this time Freelancers Union conducts its annual Survey to explore current issues impacting the independent workforce. This year, the survey is focusing on participants’ experiences in the current economic climate and their opinions about institutions that deliver health insurance and retirement benefits. Your participation is important because the information collected is a significant component of the Freelancers Union advocacy campaigns that benefit independent workers. Your responses will provide the data needed to focus on the specific aspects of these issues that are impacting you most critically. So, please take a few minutes to complete the survey, and ask your friends and colleagues to complete one too! http://www.surveywriter.net/in/survey/survey937/2008_Annual_Survey.asp
