AWNY’s Spring Cocktails, Member’s Meeting

Events Co-Chairs:
Renee Martin and Laura Rivchun

It was an evening of networking, mingling, celebrations and introductions. AWNY’s 2008 Spring Cocktails event was truly a time for many AWNY members to renew, recharge and giveback. With inspiration, Arlene Manos recapped and reviewed her leadership role as AWNY’s president for the past 2 years. She acknowledged AWNY’s growth and strength, plus emphasized ways to be involved. Arlene took a moment to recognize and thank committee volunteers for their hard work and support. As Arlene passed her president’s baton to Mary Morgan, the audience gave many thanks and praise to Arlene for her contributions to the organization while they welcomed Mary as our new president.

A highlight of the event was Susan Lilley introducing the newly elected 2008-2009 Board of Directors. Many board members were on hand throughout the evening to talk and discuss the importance of making connections within AWNY and how they contribute to the organization—that each and every one of us can make a difference both personally and professionally.

The night wrapped up with Liz Schroeder proudly presenting the AWNY Foundation donations and scholarships. This year, through a portion of the proceeds of all of our events, AWNY was able to give $38,000 to local charitable organizations and scholarships. Donations were made to The Dwelling Place, Girls for Gender Equity, and The Pajama Program.

Liz also announced the 2008 Scholarship awards which went to the following schools: Ithaca College, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, University of North Carolina at Wilmington, University of Kentucky, Rowan University, Florida State University, University of Illinois, and Virginia Commonwealth University.

To continue in the light of giving back, many members brought pajama donations to be given to the Pajama Program, an organization that provides new, warm and comfy pajamas to children in need.

A big thank you went out to Microsoft-MSN for donating space for this event; Face Station, National Cinemedia, Paladin and Martha Stewart Living for donating wonderful door prizes.

This free event was hosted by the Membership Marketing Committee and was open all AWNY members. If you missed this event, AWNY will have a Fall Cocktails event in November.
