The participants discussed their inspirational mentor relationships and
the lessons they have learned. The mentees described how the relationship
is one of caring, trust, listening, and understanding. The best mentoring
relationships transcend traditional professional borders and become friendships.
In the words of Robin Steinberg, SVP Director, Print Investment &
Activation, MediaVest, when speaking about her mentor Donna Speciale,
President, MediaVest Worldwide, a mentor lets you go after what you believe
in and envision.
Importance was placed on fostering similar relationships within agencies
today to ensure that junior level women have a strong foundation on which
to grow.
Impact Award honoree David Verklin,
gave a list of his seven Lessons in Mentoring:
1. Maintain and keep an entrepreneurial spirit and extend that spirit
company-wide
2. Possess relentless optimism
3. Maintain your calm under fire
4. Hard work really matters
5. Be persistent tempered by patience
6. Listen aggressively
7. Maintain and never forget the importance of human contact
